Goodbye, Geek Retreat Camberwell

I write this post with a sunken heart.

Sadly, today, on the 12th of December 2o21, Geek Retreat (GR) Camberwell held its last FaB even. It is actually the store's last event ever, as the store is closing for good after today.

Since GR Camberwell started holding FaB events earlier this year, I was a staunch supporter because it was the store closest to where I live, allowing me to play more often! So, the sudden news of its closure saddens me.

I was actually in the middle of writing a "The next station is" article on GR Camberwell when I heard the news. Whilst such an article might not be as useful after today, I would still like to finish it and include it in this post. A proper Armoury Line send-off for a local game store.

The Store

GR Camberwell is smaller than it’s sister store in north London. But, that is part of it’s charm.

Back of the store, there is an area with tables for TCG.

There is also another room slightly hidden even further back, with even more space! I think the venue could seat about 30 people, even though it could get a bit snug.

At the front of the store is the till, along with accessories and boosters for sale!

Like GR Holloway, Camberwell served food and drinks. Their hotdog is quite nice and they can use an air-fryer for your fries (which I tried out, of course).

Legacy

Camberwell was probably the only LGS in south London that supported FaB, and it shall be remembered as so. GR have said that they would like to open more south London stores in 2022. However, we'll have to wait and see. But, until then, GR Camberwell, you will be missed.
